Avast Web Shield continuously tests information that is moving through the internet and blocks possible infections in real-time. This protects against ransomware, which locks your files and requires payment in order to unlock them as well as Trojans that disguise themselves as legitimate software but inject malware onto your device. Web shield also detects phishing sites which attempt to steal your private information.

Avira provides a variety of settings that you can adjust to personalize the way avast’s web shield operates. For instance you can alter the sensitivity level, which controls the degree to which avast web shield checks the data when you connect to the internet. You can also enable or disable HTTPS scanning, as well as script scanning and block botnets. You can also create a list of exclusions to prevent certain programs from being detected by the web shield.

If avast finds malware or an unwanted program on your system, avast will try to repair the file first. If it’s not possible to repair it will be moved by avast file to Quarantine and inform you of its detection. You can also create a default option that avast will perform when a threat is detected.

If a web page or app that you know to be safe is blocked by Avast, you can add it to the exceptions list so it will never get blocked again. You can do this by clicking on the Real-Time Shields Tab and then selecting the Web Shield (or File Shield) option from the list. The process for adding an app or website to the list of exceptions is different for Avast Security and Avast One apps.
